Dole expands at Port of Wilmington DE

Mar 20, 2006 9:48 AM, from staff and wire reports

Dole Food Co, the Diamond State Port Corp, and Delaware Gov Ruth Ann Minner unveiled Dole’s new $16 million warehouse at the Port of Wilmington DE recently. With 92,267 square foot of space, the warehouse will boost Dole’s refrigerated warehouse space at the port by 57%.

The fruit company, which signed a 15-year lease for the property, obtained $12 million from Delaware and $4 million from the Delaware River and Bay Authority for the expansion.

At the Wilmington port, Dole provides more than 480 jobs, and the new warehouse likely will produce 150-plus additional positions.

The world’s largest banana port, The Port of Wilmington is the number one gateway for fresh fruit imported into the United States.
