Marten Transport hauls off a profitable 1Q

Marten Transport Ltd, the Mondovi WI-based refrigerated carrier, announced its financial and operating results for the quarter ended March 31, 2006.
For the first quarter ended March 31, 2006, net income increased 4.9% to $5.1 million from $4.8 million for the same quarter of 2005.
Operating revenue for the first quarter rose 16.2% to $119.6 million from $102.9 million for the 2005 quarter. Operating revenue included fuel surcharges of $15.8 million, compared with $9.7 million for the same quarter of 2005. Operating revenue also included non-freight revenue, mainly from Marten’s logistics operations, of $6.7 million for the 2006 quarter, versus $2.9 million for the first quarter of 2005.
Freight revenue, which excludes fuel surcharge and non-freight revenue, climbed 7.4% to $97.1 million for the first quarter of 2005, in contrast to $90.4 million for the 2005 quarter.
