Mexico opens its border further to US beef

Mexico plans to allow more United States beef products—including trimmings, liver, kidneys, tongue, hearts, and lips—across its borders, according to a Houston Chronicle newspaper report. The nation has already partially removed a ban imposed on US beef imports after a case of mad cow disease was detected at a Washington state farm.
Newly allowed meat parts will have to come from meatpacking plants approved by Mexican authorities. They also will have to be from cows less than 30 months of age that have never been exposed to animal-based feed, the Agriculture Department said in a prepared statement.
The department said the newly approved products present no danger of infection.
