Pathmark sales sink in fiscal first quarter

Pathmark Stores Inc, a supermarket chain operating 142 stores in the New York, New Jersey, and Philadelphia PA metropolitan areas, reported results for its first quarter of fiscal 2004 ended May 1, 2004.
Sales for the first quarter of fiscal 2004 were $990.1 million, a decrease of 1.5% from $1.005 billion in the prior year’s first quarter. Same-store sales fell 1.4% in the first quarter. The net loss was $1.8 million in the first quarter of fiscal 2004, compared with net earnings of $0.9 million in the same quarter a year ago.
