New plant to make Roundy's chilled foods

May 5, 2006 9:18 AM, from staff and wire reports

Roundy’s Inc expects to have a 116,000-square-foot refrigerated plant in Kenosha WI operating by the end of 2006.

The $26 million facility will produce Roundy’s brand of ice cream, meats, salads, juices, and bottled water for the Rainbow, Pick ‘n Save, and Copp’s supermarkets. Milwaukee WI-based Roundy's had been purchasing these products from outside suppliers.

When fully operating, the plant is expected to generate up to 150 jobs.

In summer 2006, the facility will start producing 3,500 cartons of ice cream per hour. Two ice machines eventually will provide 140 tons of ice daily.

The facility's temperatures will be 40° F in food preparation areas and –80° F in a spiral freezer.
