SuperValu poised to become powerhouse

SuperValu Inc reported net sales of $4.6 billion for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2006, which ended Feb 25, 2006. This is unchanged versus the same period of fiscal 2005. Net earnings totaled $6.0 million compared with $92.9 million a year ago.

For the fiscal 2006 full year, the supermarket chain tallied net sales of $19.9 billion compared with $19.5 billion in fiscal 2005, and net earnings were $206.2 million in contrast to $385.8 million a year earlier.

Jeff Noddle, SuperValu chairman and chief executive officer, said, “Fiscal 2007 will be the year we begin the transformation of SuperValu into a national retail and pharmacy powerhouse.”
