Tropicana employees brace for job cuts

Dec 16, 2004 9:22 AM, from staff and wire reports

Tropicana Products Inc is expecting to cut up to 100 positions at its Bradenton FL juice plant. The company plans to terminate 22 salaried positions and provide 100 to 200 hourly workers incentive packages to quit in the next two months.

These cuts would be about 5% of the 1,900 employees at the Bradenton plant, which is the biggest private employer in Manatee County. The firm does not anticipate more cutbacks in Bradenton after this round is finished.

Tropicana also is cutting another 13 salaried jobs at its Fort Pierce FL, City of Industry CA, and Jersey City NJ facilities. These employees are not receiving company incentives to quit.

Because of recent hurricanes, this season’s orange crop in Florida is expected to be the smallest in 13 years.
