Tyson Foods to shut down Jordan's Meats

Dec 13, 2004 10:28 AM, from staff and wire reports

Tyson Foods Inc, the Springdale AR-based poultry and beef processor and marketer, plans to close Jordan's Meats of Portland ME, effective Feb 1, 2005. This plant produces sliced meats and cooked roast beef under the Jordan's and Kirschner brand names. These products will be handled by Tyson plants in New York, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Oklahoma after the closure.

The 285 employees at the 65,000-square-foot plant and its distribution center are encouraged to apply for work at other Tyson locations, the company said.

In 2001, Tyson acquired IBP Inc and took over the Jordan's Meats operation.
