West Liberty heads west for new plant

May 19, 2006 8:56 AM, from staff and wire reports

West Liberty Foods, which produces and supplies sliced meat and poultry products, plans to construct a new facility in Pleasant View UT. This plant, expected to employ up to 500 workers, will be capable of processing more than 1.6 million pounds of product a week.

The Utah plant is the West Liberty IA-based firm's fourth and its first in the western United States. It will consist of a 67,000-square-foot slicing facility with 10 production cells and a 70,000-sq-ft log fabrication/ready-to-eat chicken operation. No animal slaughter will occur at the plant.

The company will team with Millard Refrigerated Services to build an adjacent cold storage warehouse with refrigerated and frozen capabilities. Completion of this facility is anticipated to be in May 2007.
