TransCore’s Canadian Freight Index showed a 30% increase in year-over-year analysis, while month-over-month growth slowed with a six-point dip from August. Similar to North American data, spot freight volume in Canada for September 2010 is the highest recorded volume when compared with the same time in the past five years.

Spot freight has surpassed the 200-point threshold for the previous seven months, and the past two months have set new high water marks when compared with the same month’s five-year history.

Load volume from the third quarter increased 44% over the third quarter of 2009, however, consistent with other industry results, spot freight availability softened 15% from its peak in the second quarter. Total equipment availability for September 2010 dropped 12% from September 2009 while capacity realized a small gain of 3% over the second quarter of 2010, resulting in overall improvements in load-to-truck ratio.
