Sep 25, 2003 12:00 PM, from staff and wire reports

Tyson Foods plans to eliminate up to 600 jobsÑor about one-third of the workforceÑat its chicken processing plant in Hope AR, according to a Houston Chronicle newspaper report.

The Springdale AR-based meat processor will have other companies in Arkadelphia and Dardanelle AR do some of the labor-intensive operations now performed by workers in Hope, spokesman Ed Nicholson said.

The company and state will help affected employees find other jobs, Nicholson said. More than 120,000 people work for Tyson in the United States and Mexico.
