C H Robinson scores solid fiscal marks

C H Robinson Worldwide Inc said its second-quarter gross profit increased 11.9% to $136.0 million compared with the same period in 2002.

Income from operations rose 12.6% to $46.2 million, and net income climbed 14.9% to $29.0 million.

“Our core truck business continued to turn in solid results, and our other modes again made significant contributions this quarter,” said John P Wiehoff, chief executive officer.

Wiehoff said the Eden Prairie MN-based company’s 10% increase in its truck transportation business was driven by volume growth in both truckload and less-than-truckload transactions and an boost in profit per transaction in its truckload business.

For the six months ended June 30, 2003, gross profit was up 14.4% to $269.1 million. Income from operations advanced 19.8% to $89.6 million, and net income climbed 21.1% to $55.8 million.
