SCS Transportation logs a profitable 2003

SCS Transportation Inc has reported revenue of $207.5 million for the fourth quarter of 2003, up 6.8% from $194.3 million in the year-earlier quarter. Net income was $4.6 million, a 50% increase from $3.0 million in fourth-quarter 2002.

For the full-year 2003, revenue totaled $827.4 million, a 6.7% advance from $775.4 million in 2002. Net income was $14.9 million for 2003, a 23.8% climb versus income of $12.1 million in 2002.

The two SCS operating companies, Saia Motor Freight and Jevic Transportation, both tallied higher revenues. Saia revenue was $129.6 million in the fourth quarter, a 5.2% gain from a year earlier. Operating income for Saia was $7.4 million in the quarter, a 28.9% advance from the same quarter in 2002.

Jevic fourth-quarter revenue totaled $77.9 million, a 9.6% climb from the prior-year quarter. Operating income for Jevic was $3.0 million in the quarter, up 39.4% from a year earlier.
