Turnpike snafu takes a toll on Indiana man

Feb 11, 2004 12:00 PM, By Larry Kanaher

An Indiana man who received a $108 bill for running a truck through Pennsylvania Turnpike toll booths without paying has told his state authorities that the photographs are wrong. He says he does not drive a big rig, nor has he been to Pennsylvania recently.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike wants Craig Ucchino to pay tolls and fines for breezing past toll booths in November. "He told a local branch that he does not own a tractor-trailer," Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles officials said. "We need to look into this further."

Ucchino was so frustrated at not being able to solve his problem at the local BMV that he contacted a television station to elicit their help.

"I do not own a tractor-trailer; I do not have a commercial driver's license; and I haven't been to Pennsylvania," he told WRTV News in Indianapolis IN. "I want a letter from them (Indiana BMV) saying that this is not my tag in the picture, so I can send it to Pennsylvania."
