Dec 18, 2003 12:00 PM, from staff and wire reports

Workers at the Tyson Foods Inc pork processing plant in Logansport IN have ratified a new 4-1/2-year labor agreement that provides improvements in wages and benefits, company officials reported. This is the ninth labor contract successfully negotiated by Tyson with the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) union over the past 18 months.

The previous five-year labor contract was scheduled to expire October 4, but was extended indefinitely while talks continued between the company and UFCW Local 700.

This new labor contract affects 1,700 workers at the Logansport complex.
