May 19, 2003 12:00 PM, from staff and wire reports

Employees of Averitt Express, a Cookeville TN-based provider of transportation and supply chain services, donated $150,000 to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital in 2002.

Since 1990, Averitt Express workers have been making donations to St Jude via Averitt Cares, the company’s employee giving program. The program has yielded donations that total more than $1.1 million for the research facility. In 1998, Averitt Cares announced a $1.5 million endowment to finance the Leukemia and Lymphoma Clinic at St Jude, and in 1999 the hospital designated Averitt Express as Employee Giving Organization of the Year.

More than $3 million has been contributed to charities by Averitt associates through the Averitt Cares program.
