Aura Systems Inc was notified by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) that its Oasis all-electric transport refrigeration system may be eligible for grants under the National Clean Diesel Campaign Program (NCDC). This program may cover up to 25% of the cost of the Oasis system.
Eligible organizations and entities for funds under the NCDC program include: (i) A regional, state, local, or tribal agency or port authority with jurisdiction over transportation or air quality; and (ii) A non-profit organization or institution that 1) represents or provides pollution reduction or educational services to persons or organizations that own or operate diesel fleets; or 2) has, as its principal purpose, the promotion of transportation or air quality.
School districts, municipalities, metropolitan planning organizations (MPOs), cities, and counties are all eligible entities under this assistance agreement program within the extent that they fall within the definition above. Private fleets do not qualify for funds under this program.
The EPA letter states, “The AuraGen TRU (transport refrigeration unit) may be eligible for funding under the NCDC program funding opportunities to the extent it falls in one of the eligible categories listed above. For example, an existing conventional midsize refrigeration truck may be able to be retrofit with the AuraGen TRU—effectively replacing the truck refrigeration unit diesel engine with an electric power source. Alternatively, an existing conventional midsize truck with a diesel-powered refrigeration unit may be replaced with a new midsize refrigeration truck that is manufactured using the AuraGen TRU technology. In a truck replacement project, the new truck must comply with new engine certification emission standards.”
