CARB issues guidance
on TRU requirements

Sep 10, 2012 11:46 AM

The California Air Resources Board (CARB) has posted guidance on its website explaining new requirements that apply to freight brokers, freight forwarders, shippers, receivers, motor carriers, and drivers.

Beginning January 1, 2013, California law says a business entity that arranges, hires, contracts for, or dispatches transport refrigeration unit (TRU)-equipped trucks, trailers, shipping containers, or railcars for transporting perishable goods on California highways and railways must require the motor carriers to dispatch only regulation-compliant TRUs.

This website also provides guidance to business entities that hire or contract for transporting perishable goods on how to ensure motor carriers’ TRUs are compliant with California’s in-use performance standards.

The website is at www.arb.ca.gov/diesel/tru/tru.htm.

A direct link to the guidance is www.arb.ca.gov/diesel/tru/documents/guidance_broker-shipper-receiver.pdf.

For answers to questions about compliance or registration, call the TRU Help Line at 1-888-878-2826 or 1-916-327-8737.
