Purfresh Inc, provider of active atmosphere and supply chain management technologies that enhance the quality of fresh produce in transport globally, announced that the European Patent Office has granted patent #2107936 to Purfresh, entitled “Shipping Container Ozonation System.”
“This patent coverage in Europe supports our goal of revolutionizing the shipping industry of how fresh produce is shipped around the world,” said Dr Brian Westcott, president and chief executive officer of Purfresh. “Fresh produce losses due to microbial decay during transit is staggering. As more and more food is shipped around the world, implementation of our technology is even more critical as it reduces waste and protects the quality of the cargo—delivering fresher fruits and vegetables to consumers worldwide.”
Scientifically engineered, the Purfresh system enhances the atmosphere inside a refrigerated container with an active form of oxygen—commonly referred to as ozone—to control molds, yeasts, ethylene, Salmonella, E coli, Listeria, and other contaminants in the air and on surfaces. The system minimizes decay, controls ripening, and increases food safety of fresh produce during ocean transit, making it effective to protect decay-prone or ethylene-sensitive cargo.
Purfresh has patents pending in the United States. The system is offered as a service by most major shipping lines.
