Feb 1, 2004 12:00 PM

Inefficient dock layouts, unproductive staging and routing processes, and lack of accountability among frontline supervisiors are costing transportation and distribution companies millions of dollars annually, according to a consulting firm that specializes in operational improvement in the transportation and distribution industry.

According to Robert J Wiedmaier, president of Performance Solutions Inc (PSI), one company it works with realized cost savings of $480,000 a year by using its recommended improvements.

“We assessed the firm's current operational footprint, developed and implemented a re-engineered facility layout, and improved dock operations,” Wiedmaier said. “We also established performance measurements, leading to improved productivity and bottom line effectiveness.”

PSI serves the transportation, supply chain management, and automotive supplier industries.
