Aug 1, 2008 12:00 PM

Border Cold Storage, based in Pharr TX, opened new quarters recently less than a mile north of the Pharr/Reynosa International Bridge at the United States-Mexico border.

This 50,000-square-foot facility is situated on 16 acres with space for future growth. It offers 10 cold rooms with temperatures from 28 to 65 degrees, a 13-door refrigerated dock, as well as a dry storage area. The facility was constructed to handle about 75% fresh and 25% frozen products, according to Tyler Morgan, the firm's president.

“Green” or sustainable feature, of the facility include a carbon dioxide/ammonia cascade refrigeration system and motion-sensor lighting. It is fully racked, and radio frequency (RF) scanning and tracking are provided, along with online order entry.

Border Cold Storage plans to expand its services to include packing and repacking as needed, Morgan said.
