Henningsen earns third SHARP designation

Oct 1, 2007 12:00 PM

Henningsen Cold Storage Co's Temperature Controlled Logistics Center in Scranton PA has been awarded SHARP status by the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA). Scranton joins the firm's Twin Falls ID and Grand Forks ND operations in being SHARP-certified.

SHARP (Safety & Health Achievement Recognition Program) recognizes employers that operate an exemplary safety and health management system. A SHARP-certified facility is exempt from programmed OSHA inspections.

To become SHARP-certified, a facility must request a consultation visit that involves a complete hazard identification survey, correct all hazards identified by the consultant, and implement and maintain a safety and health management system that, at a minimum, addresses OSHA's 1989 Safety and Health Program Management Guidelines.

A firm must also lower its lost-workday injury and illness rate and total recordable case rate below the national average, as well as agree to notify the state Consultation Project Office before making any changes in the working conditions or introducing new hazards into the workplace.
