Jan 11, 2008 8:38 AM

Sara Lee US Foods, a unit of Chicago-based Sara Lee Corp., has opened a new $31.7 million, 182,000-square-foot refrigerated warehouse in Haltom City TX to handle lunch meat, pies, and other goods from 15 plants. The facility will employ up to 120 workers to distribute boxes of Bryan smoked sausage, Ballpark franks, and other foods.

Constructed by Indiana-based Tippmann Group and managed by Michigan-based Total Logistic Control, the facility is Sara Lee’s fifth frozen food distribution center in the United States. It provides 90,000 square feet of freezer storage space, 42,000 square feet of cooler facilities, and a 25,000-sq.-ft. shipping/receiving dock.

Adjacent to the new center, Sara Lee’s corn dog plant will be connected via conveyor belt to the distribution center by June 2008, according to the company.
