BJ's Wholesale begins year with sales surge

BJ's Wholesale Club Inc's sales for January 2005 increased by 4.9% to $495.9 million from $472.6 million in January 2004. Comparable club sales for January 2005 rose 1.9%. In January 2004, the company reported comparable club sales of 8.8%.
For the fourth quarter of 2004, sales gained 6.9% to $2.0 billion, and comparable club sales advanced by 3.4%. For the year ended Jan 29, 2005, sales grew 10.2% to $7.2 billion, and comparable club sales were ahead 6.0%.
